Filofax Set up: University Edition

Hello!

Long time no see!

I thought while I have a spare morning (before the madness begins of next week) I thought I might blog this, as it has been lingering around for a few weeks.

Here is my university set up for this semester - it is working really well.

Looking  a wee bit full :)

Dashboard - colour coding scheme, and removable tab labels sticky taped to the clear fly leaf

Closer view of my tabs

I have my to do list
my month and weekly view
My uni reference tab, and my Global Leadership Program info under the one tab.

First section - to do lists.
I started using these as a sort of brain dump type of system, I then go and space out the tasks during the week in my WO2P

Reading and the Power of Words

The past week I have been a bit down on myself, not the happy chirpy person who annoyingly giggles at silly things.
Knowing the main reason behind this 'mood swing' is that I am lacking something to do, it starts out as boredom then progresses into a bizarre place where I lack all motivation for anything.

Today I decided to clean out my bookshelf, I came across a book I had completely forgotten I had bought. "What your Mother should have told you - Natalie Reilly"

The first section of the book is titled 'How to be Happy' - how fitting for the way I was feeling, as you progress further into the pages riddled in advice which contains a witty prose and funny relatable antidotes my mood completely shifted back into some what of a normal state.

Moral of the story, feeling down? Pick up a well written funny book and have a laugh. Reading transports you to a different world, removes you from feeling sorry for yourself and might just bring your icy attitude  back up to at least a luke warm temperature.

Filofax 'My Week' - January Edition

It has been a looong time since I blogged what my week looked like in my Filofax, so instead of boring you to death, I thought I would just show you how I've been using my kikki k pages, and decorating with some new washi I have acquired.

Love these post it notes, which were sent to me via the secret santa RAK on the AUS and NZ Filofax Group

This was by far the busiest week I have had in a long time. Can you tell how busy I was by looking at how messy it is?

Here you can see the colour coding tab scheme I sometimes work with - it really worked so well over summer school. I also love love love this washi tape..

Ahh the week before exams! I spent most of it freaking out.

Hellish exam week! Thank goodness it is over!!!

So that's about it, nothing overly exciting, but thought I would just document this while I have no uni work to do, and am spending my first day off holidays catching up on things.

Political thought in action

Political thought in action – or ramblings I think it should actually be called.

The title of this blog post is ‘borrowed’ from a unit I am yet to sit at university, but it does sound intriguing in all dramatic senses right? Lol!

Over the past few months, as I have dragged myself through the torment of reading through countless articles, participated in many political debates via social media and with family and friends my political thoughts have changed to a certain degree, actually maybe evolve is a better word to describe it.

Today I thought I would touch on some of the subconscious underlying things that I believe drives people to political action or at least political thought.

So how did this blog post come around? Through conversations, reactions, personal belief and experience with a political organisation.

As I am sure you are all aware, I am a member of a rather controversial idealist political party within Australia. In hindsight it is not surprising that they didn’t win a seat, or come close to it technically speaking. Without any real policies, its main candidate is  ‘trapped’ within an embassy overseas in London with a number of government organisations wishing he wasn’t alive. Some have also described it as a ploy to aid its founder out of the tricky situation he is in, but that is a whole other topic within itself.

Let’s go back to one of the key points I have taken away from this experience, that being idealistic is a great spark. What spark did it create? A movement in people. Now it is important to note that by movement, one would assume a huge rally of people, however a movement can actually  be on a personal level.

In my self-help reading book craze, I have come out with the idea that to truly change the world, you need to alter your perception before you have any impact. This leads me to believe that changing the world happens on a personal perception basis, if you can change YOUR view of the world, share this with others on the smallest level you will have an impact on their thoughts, which in turn will affect their lives, they will tell other people, who will tell others, which therefore changes the world.

Sure I would love to inspire people like leaders and public figures have inspired myself, is that always realistic? No.

Am I the next Bono? No. Am I going to be as radical as Julian Assange? I doubt it. Am I going to be the next Jack Mundey? Probably not.

As amazing I think the individuals listed above are, I have come to terms with the fact that I may or may not find myself in situations or have access to the platforms they have created for themselves. Maybe I am, dare I say it a little bit more conventional or even *deep breath* conservative.

No matter what I may be, I have to work with what I have. Which I have only really come to terms with that I can only play the cards I am dealt in life.

Now a lady never reveals her secrets, but in essence what cards do I have in my hand in the game of poker called life?

A critical mind (which is developing more and more each day), a keen sense of learning, a deep dislike for corruption, a belief that injustice in the world needs to rectified, some may say a deep sense of national pride, but above all I am no different to any other person in this world who has a questioning mind in a forever changing and developing world.

If you are reading this and made it through, well done! Gold Star for you.

Thoughts, comments, opinions, book deal offers?

Week 44!

Helllllooo!

Another week down in the year 2013! Can't believe we are in November!

Actually I can and I can't, time has flown by, but in the last 11 months I have grown so much as a person. It has been 11 months since I left my fulltime job (which at the time was what I dedicated my life too), I started studying which I adore more then anything else in the world. I love learning.
I also have 'found myself' again. I have gone back to the person who I was about 6 years ago, with a much older, more grown up perspective of the world. I am finally coming to the terms that I am actually happy with myself. :)

So, I'll leave my ramblings for another day as they might be a bit heavy for a Monday morning.

Here is my week in my personal metropol. Things are winding down in terms of assessments for uni, but exam season is about to hit.  :/

I attended a fundraiser luncheon on Friday for a family friend who is living with cancer. It was such a lovely heart warming day.

I also had the arrival of my first ever POCKET FILOFAX!!!!

A huge thank you to Belinda for letting me re home her beloved Filofax. The cross style is the one I have been eyeing off ever since I discovered Filofax. I can't wait to start using her.

Inspiration: Sarah Harrison

I’m sure we have all heard of the recent leaking of the NSA files and the ever growing saga of Edward Snowden. If you have been living under a rock, or want to read some further details, this is a link to the Australian ABC’s article.

What I would like to speak with you about is a person that is supporting Edward Snowden in such a brave, courageous and selfless way. This person is Sarah Harrison.

I have not made it a secret that I am a supporter of Wikileaks (who Sarah is employed by), I think what they do for the world has changed the scope and people’s perceptions of the bodies who govern our countries. Even in saying that, if we took that statement out of the equation, Sarah’s courage in an age where we seem to be more concerned about protecting our own interests before others (a perception I don’t completely agree with, but it is a well implied statement) is rather remarkable.

I’m not going to bore you with all the details, we can all use Google, However I would like to share a few articles about Sarah with you.

Sarah embodies the spirit of people I admire. A major influence in my life who has brought out a fighting cause in me is my grandfather. He has been a major player in developing the Australian working rights by being involved in many union demonstrations, if there is anything that I have taken away from his story it is to fight for a cause you believe in, which Sarah Harrison has done selflessly. She has left herself in exile, in fear of returning to the UK, she has left her life, her family and her friends behind to protect and support Edward Snowden. I am sure he will be forever grateful for her, and dare I say it, I am too.

It is nice to see people still caring for causes they believe in. Kudos to you Sarah.

Kikki K 2014 - Inserts Review

So last week I purchased my 2014 inserts for my personal size. It was a snap impulse buy, but whatever.

I posted my 'haul' on facebook and had some requests to blog about my thoughts and do a pen test.

Let's get started!

My local store likes hiding these types of things on me, I can never find them and always have to ask. The packing the insets come in is nothing to write home about just a plain plastic slip, but for $15, one can't complain as that is cheap for inserts compared to the Filofax and Collins inserts.
I also love the fact they start in the first few weeks of December - right before uni starts for summer so I can use them sooner!

The only layout they offer in personal size is week on two pages which is what I have been using most of the year.
Hopefully you can see this clearly, these are 3am photos.
Each day has faint lines on it so you can write neatly, each day also has a birthdays line, so you wont have an excuse to ever forget.

Week on two pages layout

I don't know if I am going to use these, the boxes are tiny!!! It also makes it really hard to write in when you are left handed like me.
I think I may need to purchase the Filofax horizontal monthly inserts or make my own.

The Pen Test

I know a few people were interested to see what pens would bleed through, I was really surprised. The quality of the paper is so much better then the Filofax inserts and I also think they are better then the Collins inserts I've been using.

Now, I do not own a lot of fancy pens. I am a huge love of the Pilot Frixion range though.

Pens Used

Flip side, not as much bleed through, just a bit of shadowing - I can live with that

This is the flip side of the paper with it held up to the lamp in my room.
There is however one thing I find slightly annoying is that there are these black banners on certain pages. Nothing a sticker can't cover. I just find them annoying as it cuts out some of the writing space in the day. A nice gesture, just annoying.

Have you planned what you will be using for 2014?
